MeHello,
My name is Connor and I am a Senior at Newton North High School. During middle school, I accidentally discovered my interest in business through a book I found at the Scholastic Book Fair: Growing Money by Gail Karlitz. Once I got to high school, I joined my school's business club and took a business class. I realized over time that the area of the business world I was most interested in was entrepreneurship. Luckily, I was able to find a program called CAPS where I was able to explore this interest in an experiential fashion. |
Capstone,When I heard about the CAPS program as an underclassmen, I knew that it was something that I wanted to do. CAPS is a program (that I highly recommend) where 2nd semester high school seniors can drop some of their classes to focus their time on an internship or research project. For me, CAPS was an opportunity to learn in a different manner than I was accustomed to. I eventually decided that I wanted to focus my CAPS internship on entrepreneurship with the hopes of answering the question, "Am I interested in entrepreneurship as a career path, or do I just possess entrepreneurial traits?"

My InternshipBuilding a company didn't seem feasible with the logistical constraints given. Therefore, I felt my best strategy would be to find a company where I could see first hand what the lifestyle was like by immersing myself. When searching for an internship, I set up two main criteria. First, the company must be big enough that they are profitable, meaning I didn't want a company that was still in the idea phase. Secondly, the company must be small enough that I can have personal relationships with all employees. I felt this would give me the most realistic and useful experience. Luckily, through my high school's Entrepreneurship Day, I met Nick Jasset, the CEO of Sheprd, a transportation start up based in Boston which met my criteria.
